When I wear a necktie, it is generally because I am serving as an expert witness in utility planning cases on behalf of environmental groups, state agencies, or consumer advocates. The impression I make on the hearing officers and utility commissioners is very important: it has to say "knowledgeable expert", "creative thinker", and "time to pay attention." Just as important, I have to set myself apart from the other legions of economists who are telling the same old story. I always choose a Daskal tie because it always gets attention, it tells people that I am creative and interesting, that I have a unique and useful perspective on things. Some may not expect that the tie makes that much of a difference, but my Daskal ties get compliments every time!
